There are many people to help you settle in.
The two universities in York organise orientation weeks for international students before term starts where you can meet other international students, learn about university life and settle in a little before UK students arrive.
The International Students Association at the University of York and Global Friends at York St John University both offer events, trips and general support to international students. Many of the events and trips are also available to international students studying at Askham Bryan College and York College.
The universities have dedicated Student Support Officers for international students who can help you with any concerns. At the colleges members of the Student Support team will be able to offer guidance and point you in the direction of the most appropriate person where appropriate.
UKCISA has a selection of helpful information guides on its website which includes advice on healthcare and culture shock.
For an international student it can be quite daunting to move from a new country and not know who to turn to. My best advice would be to not hesitate to seek for help if you need it from the respective people at your institution.
