What to do... After your visit
The doctor might give you a prescription for some medication. Take this to a pharmacy (chemist) as soon as possible. See the map and this list for locations of pharmacies in York. All pharmacies should have a stock of the medicine but if not they should get it in within one working day.
The pharmacist will dispense the medication while you are there. There is a standard cost of £8.20 per item. However, students with certain circumstances do not have to pay this fee (see exemption criteria).
Follow the instructions on the medication and if your symptoms persist go back to see the doctor. The doctor may then refer you to a specialist at the hospital but the next stages will all be explained to you during your appointment.
